Remember MAY is Mental Health Awareness Month and KITES for HOPE are coming your way!

A message from our Hope School Counselor, Mrs. Howard:

May is mental health awareness month and for this week's class lesson students will be learning about what mental health is. The oldest and only children in our school will receive a green kite to help promote a campaign across Idaho called Kites for Hope.  The kites are for use at home so they are coming home today with a letter with some Mental Health information.

Mrs. Hatley's thoughts:

"I think it is so cool that green is our school color and the color of the kites: in addition to, the purpose of the kites is to promote HOPE for all and Hope School is all about Hope for the future!  So, maybe this weekend you can, go fly a kite with your kiddos!"

Coding, Math and Robots make for a great day of learning!

The past two Fridays our fourth grade class has been spending time coding their Sphero robots to make them perform various tasks. Students had to program or code the robots to move with precision (distance and direction) to get to 'a dart board' on the floor.  Once the students had the basic part down then they were challenged by playing a dart game.  Fourth graders work in teams of two or three to figure it all out.

Today's activity was to travel with in a 'track' with two 90 degree turns and stop precisely in the middle of the landing pad.  A few students advanced to a more challenging pattern with three 90 degree turns and an additional stop to use the lights to flash a skull in the middle and then flash a heart at the end of the pattern. Check out the pictures!  So much learning AND so much fun!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month - It's as important as taking care of yourself physically!

Here is another great resource for all from Mrs. Howard, our Hope School Counselor

It's a great reminder of our our options for coping with emotions.

Presentation: Bonner County Sheriff's Officer - Deputy Osborn and his K9 team

On Friday, April 30th, our sixth grade students enjoyed a presentation by BCSO Deputy Osborn and his K9 team. The Deputy answered some questions and did a demonstration of how the dog searches for scents similar to a locker/car search in middle and high school. It is a very informal presentation designed to provide an opportunity for our 6th graders to get their questions answered and see how a K9 team works. Student Quotes: Jesse Y - "Don't do drugs." Adalynn - "Leo can find drugs really quickly, in less than 2 minutes.”
